Frequently Asked Questions

New to this? A gentle word

A conversation, not a verdict

Nothing is fixed. A reading reflects where you are now and the paths open to you — you always keep your free will.

There are no “bad” cards

Even the stormy-looking ones are gentle in context — Death means change, the Tower means release. Ellie reads them with care.

Come exactly as you are

No special knowledge, no perfect question, nothing to prepare. Feeling nervous is normal — most people do, and leave a little lighter.

A few things people often ask before booking. If your question isn't here, I'd love to hear from you — just get in touch.

What actually happens in a tarot reading?

We start with what’s on your mind, and I’ll help shape it into an open question that keeps you in the driving seat. I lay the cards for your spread, then read the story they tell together — the situation as it stands, what’s influencing it, and the pathways open to you. You leave with insight and a clear sense of your next steps, never a fixed verdict.

Is a reading going to be scary?

Not at all. A reading is a warm, unhurried conversation — there’s no doom, no judgement and nothing you have to brace yourself for. Even the cards that look dramatic are gentle in meaning: Death is about change and renewal, the Tower about releasing what no longer serves you. I read every card with care and in the context of your question, so you leave feeling clearer, not frightened.

What if I draw a ‘bad’ card?

There aren’t any. No single card is a good or bad omen on its own — each one carries a whole spectrum of meaning, and it’s the story the cards tell together that matters. A challenging-looking card is often the most helpful one in the spread, naming something honestly so you can work with it.

I’m a bit nervous — is that normal?

Completely normal, and you’re in good company — most people feel a flutter before their first reading. There’s nothing to prepare and nothing you can get ‘wrong’. Come as you are, and we’ll take it gently, at your pace.

Do you predict the future?

No — and I’d be wary of anyone who says they do. Tarot isn’t fortune telling. It reflects what’s happening now and helps you intuitively project where things are heading based on the present. You always keep your free will: a reading is there to empower your choices, not to tell you your fate is sealed.

What kinds of readings do you offer?

Two main ways to work together:

  • Written readings — you share your question through a short questionnaire, I compose your reading at my own considered pace, and you receive it as a keepsake you can return to whenever you like.
  • Live video readings — a one-to-one session over video where we explore your question together in real time and you can ask follow-up questions as we go.

You can see the current spreads and prices on the Readings page.

How do live video readings work?

You choose a service and book an available time slot. Once your booking is confirmed you’ll receive a private video link for our session — no software account needed, just click the link at your appointment time. After the call I can write up the essence of what came through so you have something to keep.

How do written readings work?

When you order, you’ll answer a few gentle questions so I understand what you’re seeking and anything you’d rather I steered clear of. I then lay and interpret your spread and write it up thoughtfully. You’ll get a private link to your reading — your own quiet shelf you can revisit any time.

How should I prepare, and what if I don’t have a specific question?

Come as you are. It helps to have a sense of the area you’d like to look at — a relationship, a decision, a crossroads — but you don’t need a perfectly-worded question. If you’re not sure, we’ll find it together. A calm few minutes beforehand to settle and reflect is more than enough.

Is my reading confidential?

Completely. I never share that you had a reading, or anything within it, without your express permission. Your contact and personal details are stored securely and never passed to third parties. You can read the full detail in my Code of Ethics and Privacy notice.

Can you read for someone else?

We can only truly change ourselves, so in general I don’t read about third parties. Where a question touches a relationship — a current, past or potential partner — the reading stays centred on your perspective and what’s within your power, rather than speaking for anyone else.

Is there an age limit?

Yes — readings are for those aged 18 and over. I don’t read for under-18s without a parent or guardian’s permission.

Can a reading replace medical, legal or financial advice?

No. A reading is for guidance and reflection and is never a substitute for professional care. I don’t diagnose medical conditions, give legal or financial advice, or answer overtly predictive questions like winning lottery numbers or when someone will die. If you need professional support, please do seek it — and a reading can sit happily alongside it.

How do I pay, and is it secure?

Payments are handled through a trusted, encrypted payment provider. Your card details are entered directly with them and are never seen or stored by this site. All prices are shown up front in pounds sterling, with no hidden charges and nothing extra to buy.

What’s your cancellation and refund policy?

Life happens — if you need to rearrange a live session, get in touch as early as you can and I’ll do my best to find a new time. In keeping with my Code of Ethics, if I don’t meet the commitments I set out, or you’re unhappy with my knowledge of the cards or the way a session is delivered, I’ll refund your fee or arrange a suitable alternative. This can’t extend to the content of the reading itself, which is my own intuitive interpretation.

Can I buy a reading as a gift?

Yes — gift vouchers are a lovely way to share a reading with someone you care about. You can add a personal message, and the recipient chooses the reading and timing that suits them.

How often should I have a reading?

Give guidance room to breathe. I generally prefer at least a month between readings on the same topic, so you have time to act on what came through. Tarot works best as an occasional compass, not a daily crutch — you remain the author of your own path.

Still have a question?

I’m always happy to help before you book. Send me a message and I’ll get back to you.
